the interview

Who is Beat fella?

I'm 5'5' and a half. My mom is from Spain. I'm 19 years old from Ohio.

When did you start making music?

I started listening to yell rappers like X and Ski and then I wanted to make music. I also really fuckied with pink guy (Joji fka Filfthy Frank) and I always wanted to make a song like 'Asian Pizza…I made music on iMovie and shit when I was like 14 but I never took it seriously.

When did you start making content online?

Since I was 12. I had a Youtube channel. And I wanted to be like a YouTuber bro. I wanted to be like Filfthy Frank so I was making like comedy videos and skits but they were just so fucking bad.

When did you drop your first song, and is it still up?

I think it is bro, it's on my old Soundcloud. I made Beatfella because my old Soundcloud ran out of free uploads. But it's kind of fucked up. I made a song for my friend's dog who died but it wasn't like… a memorial song. It was like a joke song, I think I was 13 when I dropped that.

Can we get a description of Beat fella's creative process?

Like throughout my day or something. I'll think of just like, a one liner or just something that's kind of funny. I'll just jot it down in my notes app. I'll go and just try to get a flow together and build off the one liner. But I have to be in a flow, I can't just make music.

Do you have any dream colllabs?

My dream collab was Dupont Pavilion, and I already fucking got that one, so that's hype. Also I really want to make a song with 509 BMG, which might happen soon. And Lazerdim, Supachef as well.

Your snippets often include random still images in them, is there a meaning behind them?

Not really. Well sometimes it'll be related to the lyric, but if you're talking about in 'Me Lying/Rapping', the gun snippet was just random.

In your most recent snippet you included videos of ants in it I found kind of interesting.

I don't know. For that one, because I was recording in my basement, I wanted to add some beautiful scenery.

Do you have a team or are you creating all your snippets solo?

Yeah I do them solo, I just spam edits on Capcut.

What genre is the music you make considered?

I don't even know. Just rap at it's core, for like the current music. I started off making rap and then I did more guitar, kind of sad, ballad-esque music. And I kinda combined the two.

Who's your biggest influence in music?

Probably right now, Joji. Well he's just like my main influence when I started. Definitely DJ Lucas for rap, and 100% Lil B. Lil B is my most listened to artist of all time. Like you wouldn't hear it in my music but he's a main inspiration… You can't make rap music and not be inspired by Lil B.

Where do you see Beat fella in one year?

Probably… I don't know. 10,000 followers, hopefully. I don't know probably still in school, drinking. I don't really have many plans for music, just seeing wherever it takes me. But I would, if I'm able to turn it into kind of a full time thing… I would really enjoy doing that.

How does it feel to "come up" with your numbers rising so quickly?

I don't know. It doesn't really feel like I came up at all. Just the number rises. But people hit me up and say I inspire them and like, their music is better than mine. I guess it's a kinda weird feeling.

You mention mushrooms in multiple songs, which shroom experience stood out the most?

Bro, I really did take 5 grams of Albino Penis Envy. I was sitting in my friend's dorm, bro, I thought I was gonna die. Not in like an ego death way either like a medical emergency way and that was horrifying. But after I realized that I wasn't gonna die, it was like the happiest I've ever been in my life.

You're currently enrolled in college, how is the balance between school and music?

Uh, it's actually pretty, pretty bad. I'm kind of behind in school right now because I've just been trying to do music and school. It's nothing crazy it's manageable. My biggest gripe is I just want to drop more. I want to drop more music and I don't have the time to.

Do you have any advice for aspiring artiists?

No.
